I imagine though, that some topics are just beyond the remit of this text to explore in any more detail, and of course there may well be an anticipation that the individual reader will use other sources for their research. My only issue with the book would be that I sometimes think not all sides of an argument, or subject, are fairly represented. I think this is quite a useful element, as we can often gain different persp ectives of a myth by seeing how it has been appropriated by different cultures. As well as outlining myth in antiquity, the book also covers some reception works, including modern filmography. Given that mythology can have many complex relationships, it’s useful to research in this manner, and use the text to decipher the connections between characters.
I’ve found the book to be very helpful and informative on all aspects of Classical myth, providing a good and solid outline of the stories, and also often extracts from source material, as well as images. I have been using the Morford, Lenardon & Sham as a reference guide for Greek and Roman mythology throughout the course. My husband bought me this book for a module which I’m studying with the Open University.
